Dracula Bookmarks

Targoviste - between myth and reality

Synopsis

Centuries ago, Vlad Tepes, a Romanian prince, became well known in Europe because of his bloody habit, impaling. For this reason, people called him Vlad the Impaler. One of the favourite cities to express this bloody wish, was Targoviste. That’s why, Vlad the Impaler has been associated with Dracula, and Targoviste as one of Dracula’s house.
How does it look Targoviste nowadays?

A very quiet town, the only army that makes noise is for the celebration of the town.

© video made by Romanian students Click here to see Elefsina today and its mythological background. NOTE: Demeter, the ancient goddess of earth, had a special connection to our town. "Demeter" is the name of the ship with which Dracula travelled from Romania to England, in a most thrilling story within a story!

PAINFUL LOSSES

Albert Oprea ( student ION GHICA Economic School, Targoviste, died of aneurism)
Alexis Gregoropoulos (everybody's student, Athens Greece, shot at student demonstration)
Words are not enough. Our sincerest condolances to family and friends.

As teacher i cannot stop myself to think... which is the lesson that we have to learn from these events? Why have to pass through such life events to learn that...what we need is love, compasion and understanding? WE will miss the smile of these young people who died too soon, and we'll keep them into our heart.

Teacher, I think that we, people, need those paintful losses to remember what is important in our lives... love, friends, family. This is the only way we can realise that what we already have is not for ever and we have to gain people near us, not to believe it as something what we deserve from our birth. (oana)

Tom Bodett said : "The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson."

That's what I think about this kind of events.Maybe this is the test we are given so we [at last!] learn that we should cherish every second of our lives, every breathe we take, every sunrise and every sunset we are given, because we never know when we are meant to leave this world.
Even if I often think of Albert and say to myself : "He was too young and so in love with life!", I have realized that he lived his life in a brilliant way and managed to do things that other people won't be able to do-not in seventeen, but in seventy years!

I'm sure that God chose Albert and Alexandros and many teenagers like them because He knew that we will never be able to appreciate them right, unless we lose them.

May God hold them in the palm of His hand and take care of us, too!
Rest in peace!

Ioana.

So. Never will we accept the loss of a young person. We always torture ourselves with "what could have been, had they lived on".
In Greece there is much talk on the subject. Teachers, parents and students are probably the most sincere mourners. We understand your loss. May it be the last.

I was very upset about Alexandros's death and the damages done in our city made me angry, because many families lost their living.
Girls, I am trully sorry about Albert. Anastasia.
