Targoviste - between myth and reality

Synopsis

Centuries ago, Vlad Tepes, a Romanian prince, became well known in Europe because of his bloody habit, impaling. For this reason, people called him Vlad the Impaler. One of the favourite cities to express this bloody wish, was Targoviste. That’s why, Vlad the Impaler has been associated with Dracula, and Targoviste as one of Dracula’s house.
How does it look Targoviste nowadays?

A very quiet town, the only army that makes noise is for the celebration of the town.

© video made by Romanian students Click here to see Elefsina today and its mythological background. NOTE: Demeter, the ancient goddess of earth, had a special connection to our town. "Demeter" is the name of the ship with which Dracula travelled from Romania to England, in a most thrilling story within a story!

The day it all began!

On May 3rd, a young aspiring sollicitor named Johnathan Harker travels to Romania to meet count Dracula on business. On meeting the mysterious Count, he will encounter Evil personnified and will embark on an whirlpool adventure that will put him and his beloved to the ultimate test. This is how one of the most famous books of Gothic literature starts. Bram Stoker's Dracula has influenced twentieth century culture with its strong archetypical characters and hidden meanings. Click here for a slideshow with the classic Dracula bookcovers. Find out what else happened today in our comments!

Terrific! I also read in Wikipedia that today, Margaret Mitchel was awarded the Pullizer prize for "Gone with the Wind" (the film is an all-time classic and one of my favorites!)
Also Nicolo Machiavelli, was born in 1469. He's the one who wrote our student's Christina K. book suggestion "Il prinzipe" (The prince), were he holds that anything is permitted in order to obtain and hold on to power, an easily misunderstood axiom if you don't place the book in its historical context.

Me, I read on wikipedia, today, about Eleusis. So misterious...AS well as in the Dracula's castle.
WE have seen the slideshow with covers and we realised that ...has a long history this book. Thank you again for your effort.

It is we who must thank Romania for teaching us new webtools! We are going to send you the documentary "Mourning Rock" in English, by permission of the director himself. It is a multi-prized film set on location, near our school and our homes in Elefsina. It really is about death and loss, and hope (people, animals, buildings etc) and has a diary structure, just like "Dracula"!

This documentary is made by you? Or by autorities? It will be very interesting to watch it. Your site is charged of history and mistery. Both a real motivation to study it.
